The Flintville Bobcats welcomed the Blanche Bulldogs for their home opener.

Flintville and Blanche went toe-to-toe in the first half with the Bobcats holding the 8-6 halftime advantage. Flintville, with their limited number of players, seemed to wear down in the second half. The Bulldogs would pull away after halftime and pick up the 28-8 win over the Cats.

Flintville Coach Scott Posey said it was a “tough loss for us tonight” when talking about the game.

“We had the lead at the half, but some unfortunate injuries kept us from sealing the deal,” he said. “It’s brutal playing ironman football this time of year. However, we will look at the film and get right back at it to improve.”

The Bobcats will go on the road next week to take on the South Lincoln Eagles.

The Blanche Bulldogs traveled down the road to battle the Flintville Bobcats in their opener.

Blanche started slow and trailed 8-6 at the break. Quarterback Braden Smith threw a touchdown to Tristan Hannah, and hard running by Remington Dollar led the comeback in the second half as Blanche rallied for the 28-8 win. Tristin Alderman led the defense with his play and Preston Mayberry had a late interception to seal the deal for Blanche.

“We had a very slow start to the game,” said Coach Adam Dewitt. “Flintville has a big strong team, and we feel fortunate to have put some late scores on the board and come away with the win.”

Up next, Blanche travels to the Unity Lions for a week 2 contest.

The South Lincoln Eagles football team traveled to the Unity Lions in week 1.

South Lincoln and Unity battled to the very end and the Lions pulled out a narrow 14-8 win over the Eagles.

Quarterback Diesen Ogle powered the offense with a rushing touchdown and the two-point conversion for the Eagles. Clint Quick and Ke’moni Owens made some plays late on the South Lincoln defensive side getting the ball back for a late attempt to win.

“We had opportunities but didn’t take full advantage of them,” said Coach Ben Fuhs. “Something we will work on and correct in the future. Week one to week two is a time where a team can really make big impacts. Hats off to the Lions and good luck to them the rest of the season. Now we focus on the Bobcats and us getting better.”

South Lincoln next hosts the Flintville Bobcats for a week 2 battle.

The Highland Rim Hornets football team has a new coach this year. Coach Logan Jean takes over a program that has won the last three Elk River Conference titles including an undefeated season last year. So, he probably felt a little pressure in his first game. His Hornets came out and delivered a 30-14 win over the Cornersville Bulldogs to relieve the pressure.

Led by running back Zach Smith’s running and Kasen Marble’s speed at wide receiver the Hornets look like they are ready for another run at the title.

“We are really young, and this was a really good test for our team traveling on the road for our first game,” Coach Jean said. “I’m really proud of our team all around and for playing four quarters as hard as they did.”

The Hornets turn their attention to week 2 away game with the Huntland Hornets.

The Unity Lions may be ready to challenge the three-year strangle hold the Highland Rim Hornets have had over the conference. The Lions held off the South Lincoln Eagles 14-8 at home in their opener.

Unity had their two scores on big plays. Colton Carter returned a kickoff for a touchdown and Carsen Carter also struck for a 65-yard touchdown also for the Lions. Unity Lions defensive star Conner White sealed the game with a late interception.

“I’m so proud of these young men. I told them to dig deep here in the fourth quarter,” said Coach Josh Carter. “When you feel like you gave it your all, give more.”

Unity will host the Blanche Bulldogs in week 2.

The Fayetteville Tigers will be playing in an Aug. 5 jamboree to start their season. The Tigers will open regular season play Aug. 11 when they travel to play the Forrest Rockets.
